More About Me
In elementary school I knew I wanted to be a writer. I really liked editorial magazines, fashion & style, and books. I spent at least one summer writing a book, which was really just a recreation of the Clique series. Then in middle school I discovered blogging. My first blog was The Fashion Hoarder, where I wrote about high fashion, gave fashion show commentary, posted my looks, and talked about my personal life. I loved it because no one at my school knew about it, so I could pretend to be cool to other fashion bloggers. After three years I retired the blog and gave up on Fashion, but my love for writing never left.
I decided that I was going to pursue writing and majored in English and Journalism. Being a Nigerian-American, it seemed like an odd thing to study, but my parents weren’t against it.
College ignited various interests in me; my professor who taught me Photography, Videography and editing; my required course in newspaper layout design; chasing stories and community leaders for my beat in News Writing and Reporting; the endless readings and papers I did for English; and my tenure as an Editor-in-Chief, Copy editor, and section editor for different on-campus publications. I documented my journey through college with another blog, Sizekolie, then later started my newsletter, How Many More Mondays, to countdown my moments until graduation.
I am pretty much interested in everything. Whatever I can learn, I will do. And I am learning a lot of things along the way, not just skillsets, but about life. I am figuring out this non-linear path, and I want this space to reflect that, including the highs and lows of my journey.
I’ve had many residencies, both online and IRL. None were fully mine. This space feels like my own. This is my space!
